Rejection

Paige was constantly being rejected. She did not have a boyfriend,  barely any friends, and when she tried out for the bowling team, they cut her. Every morning she would apply make up to her face so people would think she was pretty. She would always spend money to hang out with people since she had money and they did not. All of the hours of practice,  did not pay off when it came to try outs. Paige started to get discouraged. She started going to bed early to escape reality, ignoring texts from her 'friends' and putting even more make up on her face. It took her about a year to realize that she can not care about what other people think about her, and that she has to make herself happy, not others. Paige now tries talking to girls that she sees that she thinks may be going through what she went through.

Blog post

I think that the action that happens in a novel is what is most effective.  You can be in a happy atmosphere and have the worst experience. For example,  there could be a story about a 5 years old who is all happy in her comfy house until one her father comes home drunk and makes bad decisions that will scar her for the rest of her life. So therefore atmosphere is out, supernatural isn't the most effective in my eyes either. Supernatural can mean different things, it doesn't have to be negative. You could have an angel lookkng over you rather than a demon traumatizing you. So action is what makes it or breaks it.

Mary Shelley Opens her book Frankenstein by writing 4 letters that give a little bit of background of the characters. If I were to ever write a scary story I would open it up with a scary scene and then flash back to what happened. I would do this because it would catch the readers attention and they would keep wanting to know more. I think mystery is what makes something so scary, you do not know what will happen next. If you knew what would happen then you would expect it and it would no longer be scary.

Like this picture, you do not know who it is or what happened to him. it is scary and you want to know more.

Forget Something?!

When I was younger, I had a twin size bed that had posts at each leg. I used to think it was fun to swing around them when I got bored. One night when my sister and I were supposed to be in bed, I was swinging around the post and all of a sudden I smack my face on the bed post. The first thing I do is scream, "MOOOOM!!!." As I stand at the top of the stairs my mom starts to run up the steps to get me while I have a hand with a tooth in it and the other hand covered in blood. she turns around and runs back down to get popsicles. She then realized that she forgot me at the top of the steps. She now runs all the way back up and carries me down the stairs, the opens the freezer to find that we do not have any popsicles. So grandpa to the rescue, saves the day when he bought some popsicles and brought them to me.

My manager was so happy

On a slow day at Wendy's my manager kept looking at my with a smile on his face. I thought it was a bit creepy, so I gathered myself and decided to ask what the looks were for. He had explained that there was a mystery shop guy who came in while I was working. A Mystery shop guy is someone who comes in time to time and grades everyone on their job. He or she can judge you by your hair, attitude, and speed with their order. Not knowing, I took the man's order and received a 5 out of 5. My manager was so proud of me, I was the first minor to receive a 5. He was so impressed that he gave me a raise. Hard work pays off, especially when having to deal with rude customers.

I Was Hit With a Huge Responsiblity

I was hit with a huge responsibility when my volleyball coach asked me to play with the 17's American team. Currently I play for a 16's Regional volleyball team. That just means that the age group is 16 years old and younger, and regional is a lower level. Regional volleyball teams don't travel as far as the national teams, but tournaments still are not the closest by any means. most of the players have been playing way longer than I have and are a more experienced. The tournament took place in Columbus, on March 30th, 2014. It is quite a change going for one the strongest players on the 16's team to the weakest on the 17's. The maturity level is outrageous, when someone makes a bad play they shake it off and move on to the next one. I would say I played well, but not to my full potential, I played scared. I was not nearly as aggressive as I normally am, I was quite intimidated.

Desperate Measure

Quite a long time ago my mom took me to Hocking Hills so we could zipline. First we did the normal zipline though the trees and it had a normal harness that you sit in as you zipline. But once we were almost finished it started to rain. So we had to finish our zipline in the rain. That didn't stop us because when we were done, we wanted to do the super zipline.  The super zipline is just a straight shot at a high speed, but the harness is very different.  This time we are hooked up so that we are laying on our stomachs flying like superman. You take off in pairs and see who makes it down first. Just so happens that I made it down first, but I didn't stay down. I watched as the other girl came in and get stopped by the break contraption, while all of a sudden I started moving backwards and the workers were laughing and wondering how to get me. I am looking at the workers and thinking to myself, I'm going to be stuck for a while. I was not moving fast, I was going rather slow, but the worst part was when I was stuck above the river. All I could think of was what would happen if the line broke. Eventually I spotted one of the workers  on their way to me in one of the normal harnesses sitting. He had a rope that he hooked me to but the way we got back was really awkward for me. Reminder, I am laying on my stomach facing him. He had to pull us back to the base so in a way he was facing me, but he had to lean back to grab the line, hand over hand we went. We finally got there and all I could think of was that I was greatful for not being dropped in the water.

Trust Me

For the Junior Olympic volleyball team I had to get the coach and the team to belive that I was fit for the team. Joining a volleyball team is not the cheapest thing to do. So if you make a team,  you want to get your money's worth. The way I proved that I was good was that I always tried my best with every play. No matter how far away the ball was,  I went after it because my heart is into volleyball. My hard work really did pay off. I have a spot on the team,  and I am the 'go to hitter.' Our first tournament really made me shine. I hit one ball after another, after another. The coach and our setter knew that if we want put the ball down, that I was the one to set. I am a big part of the team with my consistency.  But I would not have become the player that I am without my girls.

Essay Portion

Going into my sophomore year was not easy at all. I worried about whether or not I would make the Elyria High School Junior Varsity Volleyball team, what my classes would be like, and how I would be able to manage work. Now, those were just individual fragments of my life, so let us try putting it all together. I had school five days a week, volleyball practice six days a week, and work. On top of that, I had to keep good grades. Some say that I am crazy for putting myself through all of these struggles, but I think that I am getting one step closer to my aspirations.

The subject I feel most nervous for would be English. I find Algebra least nerve wrecking because numbers and equations normally almost come easy to me. Science and History come close to being as hard as English but not quite because those two subjects at least have a text book I can utilize to study with. With English I do not have a text book that tells you when to put commas, colons, and semi colons in a sentence. I only have a book that has short stories in it and questions based on the stories. Yes, we do go over a lot of things that will be on the Ohio Graduation Test but unless I have kept every single paper, I really do not have much to study. Some ways I can prepare myself better for the Ohio Graduation Test would be to look up questions that have been on previous tests that have been released.
